About this Item
This is a finely detailed map of the Mississippi River produced for the benefit of Union commanders. It was compiled by E. H. Gerdes from surveys from battle surveyors accompanying Union troops. The accuracy was acutely observed in order to get the best information to the users. This was just-in-time for its day. Sheet No. 1 Buffalo Island to Cairo where the Mississippi River joins eith the Ohio River and then on down several miles to Mayfields Creek. Sheet No. 2 runs from Gray's point in Missouri to Price's Tow Head Island. Sheets 3-6 are present. The maps have a nice gutter that sets them up for a superb presentation when framed. Map is on thin paper as issued. there are several major separations at the fold lines that can be repaired without significant loss of any printed surfaces. The folds are not highly discolored at the folds which will yield a very nice image. Seller Inventory # 517
