About this Item

Second edition. 79pp., black and white frontispiece, illustration on the title-page, 6 black and white plates and chapter header and footer decorations, and advertisements for other works by the author on the endpapers. Robina Forrester Hardy (died 1891) was a Scottish Victorian author, poet and Christian missionary. Her fiction draws on the experiences she gained whilst working as a missionary in the Grassmarket slums, described as 'brutally realistic'. Her work has also been linked to the Scottish kailyard school and the popular fiction of Annie S. Swan. This work is an Edinburgh suburban idyl of faithful lovers in humble life. The book is bound in the original card covers with black titling on the spine, red titling with an illustration on the front cover and reviews of other works on the rear cover. The case of the book is in good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and light staining on rthe covers. The corners of the covers are curled and there are creases across the corners of the front cover. The paper covering the spine is worn with about 2" missing from the top and about 1" from the bottom. The contents are secure and clean with some soiling to the front endpapers. The corners of the first and last few pages are curled and there is a gentle crease running along part of the top edge of pages 17 to 34. There is no inscription. Seller Inventory # gScotLitHardy01
