The Merovingians were a dynasty that reigned over a large part of France and Belgium today, as a part of Germany and Switzerland , between the end of Antiquity and Middle Ages , the fifth century , immediately after the end of the Gallo-Roman times until the mid-eighth century , when Pepin the Short was crowned king in 751 and inaugurated the dynasty Carolingian.
