Early thhree-quarter vellum and marbled boards. 8vo. Two volumes in one. 456pp. Two engraved frontispieces. Second, revised and enlarged edition. This work, first published in 1845, contains still valuable material on Fra Angelico, Fra Bartolommeo, S. Maria Novella of Florence and other Italian artists and architects of the Dominican order. In terms of condition the binding is quite worn with some scuffing and paper loss to the cover boards. The vellum spine is split at the right side but still securely bound. The text is good with some scattered heavy foxing and spotting. The title page of Vol. 1 has some faint ink writing across the middle and 12 pages in Vol. 2 have some minor ink notations in the margin. The front flyleaf has some ink writing from a previous owner.
