SASSOON, Siegfried [395] pp. Faber & Gwyer Limited 1928 Seventh Impression December 7 1/2" x 5 1/4" Amazing association copy signed twice by Rex Whistler, his personal copy! Rex Whistler (1905-1944) then proceeded to study at the Slade School of Art, where he met Stephen Tennant, soon to become one of his best friends and a model for some of the figures in his works. Through Tennant, he later met the poet Siegfried Sassoon and his wife Hester, to both of whom Whistler became close. Rex Whistler & Siegfried Sassoon by Cecil Beaton c.1928 Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man is Sassoon's semi-autobiographical account of his early years in Kent and the beginning of the First World War. In it Sassoon drew on his pre-War diaries but published the book anonymously and used a stand-in narrator called George Sherston. Published in 1928, it summoned up a lost way of life.
