Esq. 175-216pp An incredible and important work of science mathematics by some of the brightest minds in early America! The Connecticut Academy of the Arts and Sciences was established to cultivate all aspects of the sciences, arts, and humanities. This copy was originally owned by Yale University chemistry professor Benjamin Silliman, Jr. whose father contributed two articles in this work, one on a mentor and one about the mineral composition of soils in New-Haven. Silliman Jr. (1816-1855) was pivotal in the development of fractional distillation which allowed for the economical production of kerosene. It is likely that Silliman Senior would have owned this personally and handed it down to his son. Noah Webster, most famous for his American Dictionary of the English Language (1828), denies climate change. Webster disputed the popular opinion that the temperature of the winter season, in northern latitudes, has suffered material change and later delivered the speech that is printed in this work. He vehemently attacked Thomas Jefferson s findings and temperature readings (of which he kept in a private diary) Mr. Jefferson, Webster stated, seems to have no authority for his opinions but the observations of elderly and middle-aged people. He attacked climate change believer Samuel Williams as well, the founder of the University of Vermont and author of The Natural and Civil History of Vermont (1794). Williams had stated that the winters in Vermont had risen by 10 or 12. Seller Inventory # RAREA1810TXZB
