Loss of the upper 2 or 3 lines of text on the final text leaf, otherwise complete. This copy inscribed by one of the author's sons on the front fly leaf: "To James Glaisher Esqe. As a token of sincere regard from his obliged pupil & friend Henry Algernon Locker 24th June 1843". James Glaisher (1809-1903) was a founder member of the Meterological Society, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1849. Rebound in modern half leather binding with marbled papered boards. Chipped spine title lettering piece from earlier binding laid down on spine. Page dimensions: 298 x 239mm. 23 chapters, each chapter paginated separately. With 24 plates. Some foxing and dampstains to margins of plates, but generally very good, and clean in the printed area. Tissue guards present to all plates. Most plates are portraits, one is of a ship and three are of ships or nautical battle scenes.
