Title: Marr's Salad Recipes
Publisher: Gillespies Ltd., Winnipeg, Canada
Not in Driver. Rare. Published in the [194?]. Very Good+ condition in color illustrated softcover. 39 pages plus 2 pages of advertisements. 17 by 12 cm. Illustrations of Gillespies products in black and white throughout booklet. Very likely published around 1939-1945. Several clues as to date of publication: (1) 'Victory Salad' recipe on p. 3 suggests World War II period (1939-1945); (2) publisher's statement inside front cover: "Marr's originated their first salad dressing in Winnipeg forty years ago .' and (3) advert. for Dr. White's Wonder Oil inside rear cover claims this medicine has stood the test of time for 'over fifty years' and (4) same advert. states that 'previous to the war' the product was exported to Europe - suggesting the war was still being waged. The Introduction states that the recipes in this book resulted from an on-air contest conducted by "Peggy" of CKY Radio in Winnipeg, Canada and that the recipes included here were the prize winning selections. Each recipe is followed by the name and home community (all from the province of Manitoba, in Canada) of the person submitting it; thus an element of social history. At time of cataloguing, one copy only listed at WorldCat and AMICUS. Bookseller Inventory # 39377
