About this Item
1/1000. 4to. Unpaginated (28pp). Paper-covered boards with illustrated cover-plate. Illustrated title-page. Rare 1912 real estate sales booklet by South Coast Land Co. Handsomely illustrated with b/w reproductions of photographs of landscape and architecture, mainly of the Stratford Inn Hotel in Del Mar, situated 20 miles north of San Diego. In 1910 after the South Coast Land Company built the hotel, Del Mar instantly became a favorite spot for many Hollywood stars. "Nature has been peculiarly beneficent to this portion of San Diego County. At no other point on the entire coast line between Los Angeles and San Diego is to be found so picturesque or so magnificent a hillside sloping toward the sea and broken only by gentle vales or occasional deep erosions which run down to the face of a cliff less than one hundred feet above sea level, at the base of which is one of the most magnificent beaches of the entire Pacific Coast." Most photographs with creative drawings extending from images. Printed on high-quality paper. Some age wear, creasing, staining and minor chipping on binding. Small chip and discoloration on cover label. Small waterstain on top right corner on first seven leaves. Slight abrasions on lower margins of free front endpaper, title-page and one interior page. Overall good condition. Scarce, early real estate promotional prospectus for Del Mar. Seller Inventory # 24013
