About this Item
Wall map in very good condition, with original rods and varnish. Typical mild cracking and age-toning. Scattered hand coloring. Land owners identified. Lithographed by Sarony & Major. This was the first printed map to be published of this town in western Massachusetts. It shows the central area of Greenfield Village, not the whole Town of Greenfield. Earlier maps had all been manuscript, mostly survey maps. Six views of houses at top and bottom. Presdee & Edwards published this around the same time as Henry Walling was began to publish maps of a number of eastern Massachusetts towns. It is the only Presdee & Edwards map from the 1850's listed in OCLC which depicted a town outside of Vermont or New Hampshire. Very rare, this map is not listed among the on-line holdings of the Library of Congress, Boston Public Library, American Antiquarian Society or Historic Deerfield. OCLC 981116925 (1 location, Yale).
