With the 19th century innovations of publishing and technology, the world became a smaller place and one which anyone could become acquainted with. As these changes blossomed, the fledgling company of Rand McNally realized the interest in small accessible material, and produced a pocket atlas. These maps carry handy reference information, and were up to date for the period. They include cities, some towns as well as some roads. They have their own charm and would be great for framing, and decorative use. This map measures 3 by 5 inches. Seller Inventory # 70492

A very nice early period map, showing the new possessions of Japan. Shows the Japanese controlled or annexed areas: Chosen, Taiwan and Karafuto & Riukiu Islands [Okinawa]. Vietnam] and that region. * KOREA: Korea was occupied and declared a Japanese protectorate in the 1905 under the Eulsa Treaty, and officially annexed in 1910 through the annexation treaty. Japan's involvement in the region began with the 1876 Treaty of Ganghwa during the Japanese called the "Joseon" period. * Korea continued to ruled by Japan for some 35-years as part of the imperialist expansion from 22 August 1910 to 15 August 1945. Japanese rule ended in 1945 upon the Japanese defeat in World War II. * TAIWAN: Between 1895 and 1945, Taiwan was a dependency of the Empire of Japan. The expansion into Taiwan was a part of Imperial Japan's general policy of southward expansion during the late 19th century. * As Taiwan was Japan's first overseas colony, Japanese intentions were to turn the island into a showpiece "model colony". As a result, much effort was made to improve the island's economy, industry, public works and to change its culture. Japan's control ended in 1945 like that of Korea. *** The key, shows a scale 1:8,744,000, miles and kilometers, railroads and canals. * The map is done in nice colors, with each province separated in red, rivers in black, international borders in red and yellow. * An excellent turn of the century map, nicely done, in excellent condition. *.
