Early owner's signatures on free endpaper dated "an 7 eme 1799". Ends of spine of vol. one and top of vol. two a bit chipped; a very good set. Bouillon-Lagrange (1764-1844) was assistant to Fourcroy (1755-1809) from 1788, and later was professor in the École Pharmacie, Paris. His popular two-volume chemistry is a summary in sixty lectures of Fourcroy's course at the l'École Polytechnique. "The lessons cover analysis and synthesis, chemical attraction, light, caloric, gases, combustibles., acids, earths, alkalies, salts, metals., vegetable substances and animal substances. The author has indicated the experiments and demonstrations performed during the course." (Cole, 'Chem. lit. 1700-1860', no.183).
