19 x 11cm. Bookplate of Carl Jeppe, Trovato, on the front paste-down and the signature "Carl Jeppe" in ink on the front free endpaper. Carl and his better-known younger brother, Sir Julius Jeppe, came to South Africa from Germany and were prospectors and mine-owners after the discovery of the Witwatersrand goldfields. Carl moved to Wynberg, Cape Town, and employed Sir Herbert Baker to build Trovato, which he planned as a retirement estate for President Kruger after his return from exile in Europe. Beige cloth-boards with artwork and lettering in black, white and pink to the upper board and black lettering to the spine. Plain endpapers. iii + 160 pp of text + 4 pp of publisher's announcements. The covers and text have rounded corners. The boards and endpapers have been professionally repaired. The contents are complete, unmarked except for a sunned square in register with the bookplate, and undiscoloured. Bookseller Inventory # 002477
