About the Book

We're sorry; this specific copy is no longer available. Here are our closest matches for Her Majesty's Navy including Its Deeds and Battles by LOW, Chas. Rathbone Lieut..

Description:

Six volumes Quarto. original blue cloth decoratively stamped and lettered in red, all edges gilt, brown endpapers. With 46 colour chromolithographed full page illustrations by Christian Symons and W. Fred. Mitchell. This work was issued in 22 parts unbound; in 7 parts in wrappers, in this 6 volume set in cloth and also in a three volume set in cloth. The images were expressly painted for the work by the artists, and the author, Lieutenant Low had written several previous books on the Royal Navy's battles, explorations and heroes. This set was considered a masterpiece of publishing and illustration at the time, and the chromolithograph plates are truly splendid, many of them showing individual ships, particularly early nineteenth century ones not often depicted elsewhere. Volume V spine and covers unevenly faded, some corners and spine ends a little rubbed, occasional slight foxing, a couple of tissue guards with slight loss of paper, bookplates, college library stamp on title pages, albeit a nice set.
