A very scarce old book for younger readers of a bygone era with a theme of motorized transportation. There are many interesting illustrations in the text plus six full page color plates. These plates feature classic automobiles along with some bi-planes and even a Zeppelin airship. There is at least one page of text missing at the end of the book, but the story appears to be wrapping up on the final leaf that is still present. The binding is still holding the other pages in securely. The cover illustration is also in color and shows a young man racing a motorcyle with a young lady seated in the side-car holding onto her hat. The young man's cap is flying off his head. Some rub and wear to the cover but it is still bright and basically pleasing. The six color plates inside are very bright and have lots of detail. The frontispiece plate features another motorcycle with side-car. Second color plate shows a motorized bus in traffic alongside a four door convertible automobile. The other color plates show: A bi-plane flying over the ocean near a battleship, while another bi-plane lands on the water and a motor boat speeds by; a "motor lorry with caterpillar wheels" followed by another similr vehicle and then a military tank; a taxi-cab halted as a policeman lets a fire engine through traffic; and a bi-plane flying underneath a large yellow colored Zeppelin airship. The black and white drawings duplicate many of these themes. Some of these drawings colored by a budding juvenile artist but not done sloppily. Title page has a drawing showing an automobile being pulled across and out of a river by (South) African natives (this drawing repeated in the text). There is an involved story line to go along with the illustration content. Last drawing shows a man, woman and child airborne in a bi-plane and the coloring of this drawing has transferred partly onto the back paste-down endpaper. This last illustration seems like it might be appropriate as an endpiece illustration, but it is unknown if there is any illustration content of the book that might be missing. Back cover of book has ads for "Nelson's Favourite Children's Annuals." Quarto, 30pp. Bookseller Inventory # 2085
