Ballantyne, author of "Three Little Kittens") 23pp, 8 rather gruesome colour plates by by the author, depicting the demise of the grey goose, heavy foxing throughout, the plates are less affected, ink signature of previous owner to reverse of frontispiece plate, pale yellow endpapers, original textured bue cloth, blind-stamped borders front and back, gilt lettering and illustration to front cover, edges and corners rather rubbed and worn. Hardback. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First edition. 1st 1857. Almost very good condition with no wrapper. Comus is the pseudonym of R.M. Ballantyne. Red embossed cloth with gilt title and vignette to front. Eight colour plates. Contains music accompanied by the verse and a short story. Spine and corners worn. Damp stain to lower edge of front cover (4.5 x 1") affects the lower edges of the front endpapers and first 12 pages (including 3 plates - margins only, pictures not affected). Previous owner's name and address in ink to front endpaper. Some light foxing and fingering, a small closed tear and light creasing to front endpaper. Not as bad as it sounds, still a nice copy. First Edition Hard Back Inscription from Comus dated 1857 to one of the prelims Comus is the pseudonym of RM Ballantyne Rebacked with beautifully decorative embossed boards and gilt pictorial to the front The boards are generally in good condition despite a little wear to the extremities and loss to the corners minor pen mark to the front The spine is worn with some loss of the cloth Binding tight The pages are a little worn and chipped to the extremities with foxing throughout Placed to the verso of the front free endpaper is a newspaper illustration of Mr Ballantyne There are eight full page colour plates throughout one of which has some crude tape repair Overall a fair copy although scarce to find with the authors signaturenbsp. book.
