Complete in one single volume edition of 'The Mill on the Floss'. (Volume II of the Novels of George Eliot). Stereotyped edition. No date. Circa 1897. Illustrated with black and white tissue-guarded title-page vignette showing: Dorlcote Mill,' the Mill on the Floss and six full-page engravings in the text by J. Cooper, W. J. Allen and others, all present, as called for. ***Very good in dark red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles and decorative borders to spine and small gilt decoration of 'the mill on the floss' to the front board. Blind decorative borders to front and rear boards. Dark brown-coloured front and rear free endpapers. Extremities of boards slightly rubbed. A few very small and unobtrusive light surface splash water marks to front and rear boards not affecting pastedowns or interior pages. Contemporaneous gift inscription in black fountain pen ink to recto of front free endpaper: 'Alice Leggatt March 31 1898 on her Birthday with all good wishes from T? G. & all? J. L.?' ' A very few sporadic light fox-spots to front and rear few pages, most interior pages clean. Spine tight. 196mm x 142mm. 486 pages. ***An antiquarian, illustrated 1890s edition of George Eliot's Mill on The Floss in its original cloth-covered boards very nice bright condition.
