About this Item

A nice almost fresh copy in only slight to moderately chipped dust jacket. Jacket is price-clipped, and there is a bit of fading to the spine. Still, a very presentable jacket after all these years, and scarce thus. Small amount of chipping to head and foot of jacket's spine and at corners. Couple of closed tears on back of jacket. Only fault to book itself is the insertion of a 1948 newspaper review of the book that is pasted onto the final blank flyleaf. The review perhaps adds something, but the glue has left an impression on the other side of the flyleaf that has the last page of the bibliography (this side mostly blank however). Photo plates illustrate Mardi Gras festivities and costumes circa 1948, which now look very quaint. Author Tallant was renowned for his grasp of the history of the city of New Orleans and its French Quarter. He co-wrote the classic "Gumbo Ya Ya" with Lyle Saxon. Jacket shows a colorful Mardi Gras parade starting near the top of the spine and extending onto the front cover. Cover also has some black and white photos presented in snapshot form. First edition is stated on copyright page. Bookseller Inventory # 1289
