The author was born in 1876 in Skagafjörður, Northern Iceland, son of Magnús Sölvason and Ragnhildur Grímsdóttir, grew up at Stakkahlíð in the East Fjords, immigrated to Canada in 1904 and lived in Winnipeg until 1916 when he enlisted in the Canadian Army; he wrote numerous articles in the Icelandic newspapers in Canada and in addition to this book of poetry (Lykkjuföll), he also included some poetry in an anthology, Aldrei Gleymist Austurland (East Iceland Will Never Be Forgotten, Akureyri, 1949. He also lived in Seattle for a period of time. This book is primarily of Canadian content. One of the poems entitled "Vancouver"; on p. 22 is a poem featuring Winnipeg; on p. 28 deals with bachelors in Winnipeg during Leap Year; poem on p. 31 deals with Lundar; on p. 35 is a poem mentioning Winnipeg's Wevel cafe on Sargent Avenue; the poem "Manitoba" on p. 41 describes a play performed in Winnipeg; on p. 48, a poem deals with a trip to Gimli; another on p. 49 deals with trip to Winnipeg.
