This is a collection of folklore gathered from residents of Essex County, New York, where this pioneer collector of Adirondack folklore was born and reared. Contents include anecdotes,tall tales,weather, proverbs,games, folk medicine, ballads and songs. Cutting, born in the Essex County town of Lewis, on a small family farm in 1918, was a librarian, teacher, author and folklorist. . Encouraged by her college professor, she interviewed her friends and family and collected examples of old customs, stories and sayings. Her first collection was published in 1944 as Lore of an Adirondack County. This is a copy of the 1972 reissue, signed by the author. A nice copy of a scarce work. Size: 6 x 9".
