Westminster New Bridge 630 by 1450mm (24.75 by 57 inches). Engraved plan, on five sheets joined, list of places upon the plan to left and right border, inset views of the Banqueting House, the Treasury, the Royal Exchange, St Paul's, Monument, Bank of England, prospect of London from Southwark, some minor wear to folds. Howgego 80, between editions (1) and (2). Fine and richly engraved plan of London.The elaborate title cartouche is copied from Parker's 'A Plan of the City's of London.' of 1720. The plan bears grid lines for easy reference, with many of the most important public buildings shown in elevation. The Thames is shown teeming with barges, watermen, and, to the east of London Bridge, sailing ships. Also shown is "Westminster New Bridge", however, not with the design that would be adopted later. There are also views of Banqueting House, the Treasury, the Royal Exchange, St Paul's, Monument, the Bank of England, and a prospect of London from Southwark. To the lower left is a table listing the rates of watermen and coachmen, and to the left and right borders a list of places to be found upon the plan together with their grid reference.The map is an intermediate state between Howgego 80 states (1) - bearing a date of 1736 - and (2) bearing a date of 1742. The date on the present map has been altered to 1738.Scale: 11 inches to 1 statute mile. Seller Inventory # 1492
