About this Item
2 volume set, 11 inches tall. A superb full crushed morocco binding by Grieve of Edinburgh with raised bands and very fine and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. Rather spectacular tooling to the boards and gilt dentelles and top edges. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. Some light scratching and an area of fading to the upper board of volume I, otherwise in fine condition. This set is number 20 of an edition of 150 large paper copies. With 40 portraits in colour of Brummell and his contemporaries. An important figure in Regency England, Beau Brummell was for many years the arbiter of an English gentleman's fashion. Once close to the Prince Regent, the future King George IV, the two quarrelled and Brummell, now loaded with debt, had to flee to France. Seller Inventory # ABE-1712062278892
