2 volume set in 19th century bindings. Three quarters leather with marbled paper over boards. Front cover of the first volume is nearly detached. 572 pages. Engraved title page and portrait of Cervantes. Folding map present and in good condition opposite page xxiv. 6 additional plates. Volume 2 has been rebacked with the original leather laid down over the repair. Book opens very stiffly now. It clearly hasn't been read (or even much opened) since the repair was done. 623 pages. Engraved title page and 8 additional plages. Text blocks good and tight. Page edges good a square. Some foxing to the plates and a few of the pages. This is considered to be the first good translation of the work. Previous owner's name and address (California, 1917) on blank page added at the front when this binding was put on.
