First French Edition? Tall 8vo. pp. vii, [1], 449, [3]. With 24 photo plates including the frontispiece and color illustrated extra title or front wrap. A fold out sheet with a small map is included in the rear. Bound in publisher?s cloth with gilt title and Buddhist swastika on the front cover. The binding is sturdy but it shows rubbing and wear; corner tips are a bit bumped; a vertical strip of light staining is present on the front cover. The interior contains occasional minor chipping and edge wear; a __ cm tear is present on the tissue guard to the plate following p. 160. a faint impress crease from the folding map is visible on the final leaves. The fold-out map contains a light extra crease. Perceval Landon (1869-1927) was an English traveler and journalist. In 1903-1904 he joined the British expedition to Tibet. His subsequent book ?The Opening of Tibet? was first published in London, 1905. The French edition appeared the following year. Seller Inventory # 001098
