About this Item
Handwritten letter from Frederick Barker (1808-1882), the second Anglican bishop of Sydney, who moved to Sydney in 1855. It is addressed to "my dear Mr. Henry." "I propose to drive over to Hatfield from this place tomorrow after --- & I hope reach you before 5:00. Mr. Digby is with quite well. Mr. Digby quite well. With my kind regard and all with you. Believe me after 6 F. Sydney." Because Barker was some 6'5" tall and abstained from alcohol, the tallest glass of beer sold at Sydney hotels during the late 19th century were known as a Bishop Barker. Approx. 4 1/2 by 7 inches.
