Large format sheet music. Good Antiquarian Condition: Score is unmarked. Cover shows moderate soil, notation. Spine of outer sheet split from head to 8-7/8 inches and to 1 inch at tail. Scarce antique large format sheet music copy of Lead, Kindly Light. Sacred song with organ or harmonium accompaniment ad lib. Number 3 in E flat Major. Words by Cardinal John Henry Newman. Music by George Aitken. This composition uses stanzas 1 through 3 of the Newman text. London: Chappell and Company, 1901. 10-1/8 x 14-1/8 inches, 37 cm. A dramatic art song vocal solo of the text by Cardinal Newman in an A B A1 arrangement, accompaniment independent of vocal line. Score is six pages. The solo DOES NOT use the usual Dykes hymn tune Lux Benigna. George Benjamin Johnston Aitkin (1866-1942) was a pianist, organist, composer and critic who trained at the Royal Academy of Music and taught under Tobias Mathay.
