1937. Reprint. xi, 254pp. and 69 black and white illustrations by Charles E. Brock including a tissue-guarded frontispiece. Decorated endpapers and title page. Charles Lamb (1775-1834) was a famous English essayist, possibly best remembered today for his Tales From Shakespeare written with his sister. Essays of Elia is a collection of essays, first published in book form in 1823. A second volume, Last Essays of Elia, was issued in 1833. The edition for sale was first published in 1899 and includes an introduction by Augustine Birrell. The book is bound in the original orange cloth covered boards with a white cloth spine and gold titling on the spine. The book is in very good + condition and the contents are tight and clean.
