This charming vintage illustrated map of Michigan and it's Upper Peninsula was drawn in the late 1930's by the renowned cartoonist Larry Smith. Perhaps better known as 'Hillbilly' Smith, Larry traveled across the country during the Great Depression, creating cartoons for everything from postcards to baseball programs. This pictorial souvenir was issued as a mailer in the second half of the decade, and includes a myriad of quaint cartoons atop a simple transportation outline of the state. The verso presents images, text, and a space for 'a note to you about my trip thru Michigan.' Sheet Width (in) 11.75 Sheet Height (in) 18 Condition Description Originally issued folded into a 9 panel mailer. Moderate wear and several areas of separation along fold lines have been repaired and reinforced with archival tape.
