About this Item
Red boards with yellow lettering on cover and spine. Rubbing along edges, exposing boards in some places. Spine is starting to fray at head and tail and hinges show early signs of cracking. Light orange dust jacket with black lettering is not clipped. Chipping to head of jacket's spine. A few small tears and light soiling on jacket. Binding is still relatively tight, but half tight page has been torn out, though it is still present. Interior is clean, but text block has some foxing, especially on top edge. Previous owner's name is stamped on front paste down. After organizing a meeting to advocate for Cuba's independence, Ibáñez was forced to flee Spain. This book describes his three-month adventure through Italy in 1896. Upon his return to Spain, he was arrested and spent over a year in prison. Vicente Blasco Ibáñez was a Spanish journalist, politician, and best-selling novelist known for his passionately antimonarchical position. Ibáñez faced consistent political persecution in Spain before moving to France following World War I. He achieved international renown through U.S. film adaptations of some of his novels. Much of his work is distinguished by the intense realism of his style and his focus on serious societal issues. Seller Inventory # 0020786
