About this Item

HARD TO FIND IN CANADA - THIS IS THE ONLY COPY ON ABE AT THE TIME OF LISTING. The cover has creases, and the pages are a bit dog eared / thumbed. PHOTO BY BOOK SELLER OF ACTUAL BOOK The Store Stamp on the first page is from THE THUNDER BIRD Vancouver B.C. : Artifact History W.L. Webber was a news agent on the CPR in 1913. In 1923 he opened his souvenir and curio shop called The Scenery Shop on Hastings Street near the CPR station. He commissioned Charlie James to decorate his shop with carvings and paintings, as Charlie described the significance of each totem pole, Webber became interested in B.C native culture thus specializing in such work. Eventually, Webber moved his shop to 856 Granville Street in 1933 where it remained a tourist landmark. In 1936, Webber sold the 1st edition of The Thunderbird, Tatoosh, which was a book on Totenism. Due to this edition, the Thunderbird became Webber's registered trademark. Webber retired in 1952 selling The Scenery Shop. This makes this book Circa 1933 - 1952. Bookseller Inventory # 001452
