Dr. Benjamin Franklin Stevenson, b. 1812, Mason County, Kentucky, attended Transylvania Medical College from whence he graduated near the top of his class in 1841 then moved to Boone County. Major Stevenson served as Surgeon in the 22nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, and was later named Surgeon General of the Grand Army of the Republic.
