Gift quality hardcover in teal cloth covered boards with red titles and outline of man leading a boy riding a pony on cover. Spine ends bumped and sunned, tips still sharp. No names, tears or soil in the 256pp text. First published April 1934, this is the third printing of 1939. Some foxing seen in text and on edge of page block. Full color illustrated dust jacket has wrap around art to the spine that matches the frontispiece. 5 full page b/w drawings by the author's sister plus a myriad of vignettes throughout the text. Jacket is price clipped and is a professional reproduction that shows a couple tiny repairs at the head of spine but displays beautifully in new mylar. The endearing story of a half-wild pony who lived on the Scottish moors who was tamed by a very likeable boy named Tammas, the nephew of a gipsy who camped on his owner's farm. Both Tammas and Kelpie were kidnapped by the gipsies, and both went through a series of adventures miserable to endure but exciting to read of, before the happiest possible ending arrived.
