The Kedive s Egypt or The Old House of Bondage Under New Masters, Edwin de Leon, With Illustrations, Harper & Brothers, New York, 1878, 435 pp, with eight pages of publisher s list, brown pictorial cloth, 7.75 x 5.25 , 12mo. In fair condition. Moderate wear to extremities with scuffing to corners and end bands. Spine abraded with light soiling to surface. Head and tailpiece of spine are worn and mostly missing. Gilt finishing bright and clean. Binding tender and shaken. Front and rear gutters cracked. Small tears to end papers. Ink stain to tissue guard and frontis, affects title page at bottom edge. Light toning to text with areas of fingersoiling and light foxing. Tissue guards intact. Free of known markings. Despite a shaken binding the text is readable and complete. Please see photos. Edwin de Leon (1818-1891) was a Confederate diplomat, writer and journalist. He was appointed consul-general to Egypt during the Pierce campaign. Illustrated with full-page plates.
