FIRST EDITION. 4to. 8.5 x 11 inches. [4] + 188 pp. Bound in original red cloth, gilt with blind stamped borders, enclosing block on front board and gilt spine decoration. Extremities worn, including head and tail of spine, but otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 3 colour plates, including frontispiece, by Roll of Honour chromolithograph and throughout by black and white photographs. Decorated by vignettes, including title page and endpiece and by two borders. An excellent photographic record of Kitchener's New Army and of the Territorial Army, from recruitment and training through to embarkation to the Front Line. It formed the first volume of the author's War of the Nations (ten volumes, 1915-17). Edgar Wallace (1875-1932) served as a war correspondent in the South African War but became best known as a prolific thriller writer. WWAR1 MILITARY WW1 MILITARY ILLUSTRATED WWAR1.
