9.5" x 6". 91pp. Beige cloth with a black silhouette illustration, in dust wrapper. Near fine condition. The VG / VG+ jacket has a darkened spine and some light edge wear. With seven (of eight called for) half - tone Illustrations of the play's set designs by Albert Johnson. With a beautiful illustrated two page title page printed in black and orange. The play was set to music by Jacques Wolfe. Wolfe has signed and inscribed this copy on the first leaf: "December, 1942. For Jack Tyler, A good lamb, a fine actor and a swell guy, With best cordial regards, Jacques Wolfe." Wolfe is perhaps best known for writing the vaudeville blackface song "Short'nin' Bread." This play opened on Broadway in January, 1940, starring Paul Robeson; the show closed after only five performances. Bookseller Inventory # 22443
