Captain Frederick Marryatt [1792-1848] entered the Royal Navy at the age of 14, served in many parts of the world before retiring in 1830. He then began a series of adventure novels among which "Naval Officer", "Percival Keene", "Peter Simple", "Snarleyyow".and wrote a number of children' books. 407pp. paper is very slightly yellowed. Frontis: "jacob Faithful"., engraved by J. C. Buttre. Protected with tissue. Dark green grained hc. Design is blind stamped on back cover and stamped in black on the front cover; the title is in a golden arch decorated with golden arabesques. On spine are black and gold design and lettering.
