2 lithographs, one a stunning hand colored lithograph of the interior of the floating Gothic Revival Church for New York City sailors, lithographed by Louis Nagel, after H. A. O. Ficht. Title continues "Built for the Young Men's Church Missionary Society of New York, by Charles M. Simonson as it is Painted by H. A. O. Ficht." The interior features an impressive vaulted roof with Gothic arches above the altar, which features a golden anchor. At the left, an elegantly dressed man with top hat in hand leads a small girl in red top coat toward the altar. This lovely floating church, designed for sailors, was built on the hull of an old ferry boat, and consecrated in February of 1844. It was moored at Whitehall Slip, then moved to the East River near Pike Street. It was sponsored by the Young Men's Church Missionary Society of New York, affiliated with the Episcopal Church. 15 x 11 1/2", paper 21 x 14". [with] An uncolored lithograph of the church interior, this one lithographed by Endicott, NY, No. 352 Pearl Street, and dated Febr. 20th, 1844. The title continues, "Built by Charles W. Simonson, for the Young Men's Church Missionary Society of New York, as painted by the Father and Son, H. And O. Ficht, now permanently moored at the wharf at the foot of Pike Street, New York". With the same view toward the altar, but now the interior space is filled with pews. 15 x 12", paper 21 x 14 1/2", closed tear bottom extending into image. Seller Inventory # 24459
