About this Item
Ink signature "H.B. Stowe" on 1/4" x 4 1/4" paper affixed top a slightly larger backing from a scrapbook page. Undated but probably from the 1860s based on other material we acquired in small collection of American female authors. The paper is somewhat toned. Hariet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was an American author and abolitionist. Her book "Uncle Tom's Cabin, or, Life Among The Lowly" , a novel depicting the like of African-American slaves in the South, became one of the most widely read and most influential books of the 19th century. It is believed that upon meeting Mrs. Stowe, Abraham Lincoln said to her, "Sp you're the little lady who started this great war!". Seller Inventory # X223x
