40 pp., stapled 8vo. Printed on uncommonly thick paper. Robert B. Folger (1803-1892), a physician and Freemason, was an ardent supporter of Cerneauism, the controversy that convulsed American Masonry concerning Joseph Cerneau (1763-1840/45), who in 1807 established a rival form of Scottish Rite Masonry that by the late 1800s was declared illegitimate. Folger was also the author of "Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Thirty Three Degrees" (1862; republished 1881). An uncommon survival; Worldcat shows only one copy (NYPL). Disbound from a larger volume, with the usual evidence of same at the left edge of the text block and, as usual, without the wrapper (if one was issued). Still, an overall clean copy, with bits of rust stain by the old staples, a short closed tear to the last leaf and a couple of faint creases to the title page. Seller Inventory # 4977
