This is an early Indiana gazetteer with 20 full page plates and several text cuts. It contains a general history of the state as well as details on cities, towns, villages, rivers, commerce, etc. Alphabetically arranged. The original calf covers are worn and bowed toward the leading edges; the joints are split and there is an old tape repair to the front inner hinge which actually makes the book quite serviceable. There is foxing to the contents. The original black leather black spine label is still present. This copy is listed as the third edtion, in a printing of 10,000 copies. The first edition was published in 1826 according to Sabin, and the 2nd edition in 1833. The text is quite foxed as might be expected in a book of this vintage.
