Size of the binding: 3 3/4 inches x 6 1/4 in., title-page; dedication page; ad lectores. 120 pp. + separate title-page for Index Poeticus (London, Typis: J. Wilde; G. Conyers & M. Wotton, 1713). with woodcut decoration; unpaginated, [58]pp. including: Catalogus Poetarum, with imprimatur at the end. Latin text. Full, old calf, with four raised bands on the spine, blindstamped titling: FARNA RHETO, on the spine, single line gilt borders around the outer covers, red sprinkled edges. The spine ends, and spine show wear, wear to cover corners, edges, rubbing to covers, the front cover hinge is weak; page show age-related tanning, a few small spots. With the signature of early owner, Robert Troup (1757-1832), at the top of the title-page, and a larger signature on the front paste-down endpaper: Robert & Troup His Book New York March, another signature on the facing endpaper has been inked over, and with this notation present in ink: learnt this book with D Johnston AD 1791. From the collection of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector, William G. Mather (1857-1951), with his bookplate inserted in this copy. Robert Troup fought in the Revolutionary War, was a friend of Alexander Hamilton, and became a lawyer in New York. A scarce book, especially with this association. Seller Inventory # M-220
