Very Good-: shows fairly heavy wear to extremities, with some loss to rubbing and, less so, to chipping at the corner tips and head an heel of the backstrip; overall, the rubbing is milder, and with some scuffing near the outside edge of the rear panel and a little faint soiling to the brown cloth over boards; the remains of some kind of label at the upper center of the backstrip, covering (partially) Vol III"; former owner's lovely hand -inscribed signature, place and date (1872) at the front flyleaf; the binding is square and secure, though the hinges are starting; the text is clean, though the text pages show some tanning. Not without some significant wear and minor flaws, but remains a solid copy: clean, sturdy, and quite presentable.
