In original brown three quarter leather and pebbled cloth with fancy gilt lettered spine and front cover decoration with all edges gilt. First edition, 713 pp. plus 76 full page portraits and 16 views, including various residences, mines, public schools, the Golden Brewery (Coors?) and a historical map, most full page. The book provides wonderful early descriptions and historical summaries of Colorado's railroads, Gilpin County, Clear Creek County, Jefferson County, Boulder County, biographical sketches of prominent citizens, and more. A primary reference written during the "flush times" of Colorado's development when mining dominated the State's economy. *** Condition: Light wear to extremities and rubbing to covers resulting in some loss of gilt to front decoration. The binding has been repaired using new floral endsheets and pastedowns, now tight and strong. Chipping to extremities of the contents page have been strengthened and filled in with archival material and tape. Text and plates have occasional smudging and soiling limited mostly to the margins.
