Book Description Los Angeles: (no publisher stated), 1925, 1925. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition. Dark green silk cloth boards with gilt-stamped titles to front. Fine condition; text mildly age-toned, but tight and clean. Gilt titles are fine. Octavo; size is 6-1/8" by 9-1/4". Illustrated. 106 pages. A book about the history of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, the southern California citrus industry cooperative for farmers growing citrus fruit. Begun in 1893 by P.J. and Edward Dreher as the Southern California Fruit Exchange, it was originally for orange growers but admitted lemons growers in 1896. In 1905 the name was changed to the California Fruit Growers Exchange, and was renamed Sunkist Growers Incorporated in 1908, which it still is today. This book has a lot of details on the early days of the cooperative, plus a few interesting photos. There is an appendix in the back that contains some fascinating information: lists of presidents, general managers, directors, officers and department heads of the exchange; district exchange and division managers; dates of individual district exchange admission, total citrus fruit shipments yearly up to 1924, plus original exchange contract and articles of incorporation. This book is quite scarce in the hardback edition - and this a very bright copy. This copy has a typed (mimeographed) page index (apparently from the author) tipped-in on the front free endpaper.
