FIRST EDITION. 8 vo. Contemp. lea.-backed marbled boards. xvi, 344 pp. Some wear to the leather and boards; a good to very good copy, internally very good. Le Chavalier Richerand (1779-1840) was Chief Surgeon at l'Hôpital Saint-Louis and professor of surgery on the Faculty of Medicine, Paris. In his history of the recent progress in surgery in France, Richerand reviews 28 areas (e.g. perforation du tympan, rhymnoplastique, invagination des intestins, fractures de la rotule, amputation des membres, etc.), and in a final article discusses the influence of new pathology theories on therapeutic surgery. Appended is a long section of historical notes. Richerand's successful text on physiology (7th ed., 1817) went through many editions and translations. His important contribution to surgery technique was the resection of the fifth and sixth ribs (1818). Wellcome IV.522. Waller 14734. Blocker Coll., p.336. Bookseller Inventory # 000430
