About this Item
This VG quality book, published by Altemus in 1912, is a first format copy as per Mattson & Davis (Henry Altemus; 7-1/2"; cream cloth binding, red lettering; front shows a boy fishing with a flyrod, in black & red; spine has title, author, Altemus leaf / acorn, series name, & publisher, in red; plain end pages; frontis +3, all on plain paper). The book is square, has moderate soiling primarily on the spine and along the edges. Both lower corners are lightly bumped with slight fabric damage. Spine ends are also bumped, with color loss but no tears or fraying; the bottom edges have very little wear and there are no edge dings. Except for a penciled name on the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any type and paper damage of any sort. The paper is very slightly toned and is still very flexible. Hinges are strong and not damaged in any way; front hinge makes a sort of cracking sound when closing (but what hinges don't make noise at 100+ years of age?). The G+ jacket is a variant that the Mattson & Davis bibliography does not account for--due to its tones and its spine illustration (format 2), I presume it is an later variant and was not originally fitted to this particular book. It is very toned with small chips at the four corners and at the heel of the spine and 3 medium-sized edge chips (see photo) at the top edge. It is not taped any where.
