Complete seven volume set. Smithsonian Institution Bureau of American Ethnology Bulletin 143. Published between 1946 and 1959. All volumes are bound in original olive green cloth with gilt lettering and are in good to very good condition. Vol. 1: The Marginal Tribes (1946) has minor shelf wear; mild soiling; toning to spine. 624 pp. Vol. 2: The Andean Civilizations (1947) has significant toning to spine; moderate wear and scuffing. 1035 pp. Vol. 3: The Tropical Forest Tribes (1948) has minor rubbing and bumping to edges; mild soiling. 986 pp. Vol. 4: The Circum-Caribbean Tribes (1948) has minor edge wear and scratching; fraying to cloth at tail of spine. 609 pp. Vol. 5: The Comparative Ethnology of South American Indians (1949) has slight rubbing and bumping to edges; minor scratching; mild soiling. 818 pp. Vol. 6: Physical Anthropology, Linguistics and Cultural Geography of South American Indians (1950) has slight wrinkling to spine; minor scratching; mild soiling. 715 pp. Vol. 7: Index (1959) has slight rubbing to edges. 286 pp. All books have tight bindings. Interiors are clean except for light toning. Previous owner's name is written or stamped on the front pastedown and/or front free endpaper of volumes 5, 6, and 7. Vol. 6 also has stamps from Senator Eugene Millikin on front and rear endpapers. Vol. 3 has a printer's error where the signature with pages 379-410 was omitted and the signature with pages 411-442 was inserted twice. Each volume (except index) is extensively illustrated with black-and-white plates, text figures, and maps (some folding). All plates and maps are present as called for, except in vol. 3, which is missing one map due to printer's error. This series of ethnographic studies on the indigenous peoples of South America features the work of over 100 scholars. Extra shipping charges may apply. More photos available upon request.
