The Habitations of Man in All Ages by Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc, Translated by Benjamin Bucknall, With Numerous Illustrations, James R. Osgood and Company, Boston, 1876, colored frontispiece with many full-page and in-text illustrations, 394 pp, green pictorial cloth, 8.5 x 6 , 8vo. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and end bands. Lightly crushed end bands. Green cloth is bright and clean, gilt decoration as well. Bookplate of Maurice Robert De Marais on front pastedown. Des Marais was a longtime faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Penn State College of Arts and Architecture and a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects. Inner hinge tender. Light offsetting from frontis. Frontis remains colorful and bright. tissue guard intact. Light toning to interior with minor instances of age-staining. Free of known markings. Binding intact. Please see photos. 1st U.S. edition. A nice copy of this informative work. This book encompasses architectural plans and buildings dating back to Neolithic structures all the way to the Feudal period. Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) was a French architect and author who restored many prominent medieval landmarks in France, including those which had been damaged or abandoned during the French Revolution.
