Whymper. 8vo, publisher s original green cloth, gilt lettered and pictorially decorated in black and gilt on the spine, and with gilt pictorial decorations on the upper cover. xvii, 455, including index. A pleasing and well preserved copy, the cloth with a bit of mellowing or age, the text block a bit shaken, but rare in the original green cloth. VERY RARE IN THE PUBLISHER'S ORIGINAL GILT DECORATED GREEN CLOTH. Seldom if ever encountered, this work is based on the author's eight years as a professional elephant-hunter in South Africa. It has become a classic in the field of Africana and is a cornerstone in any collection on the subject. Copies in cloth are rare as no more than 1000 copies only were printed. Most copies at the time were sold to hunters, were terribly damaged from being used in the field and on safari and thus, virtually no copies ever seem to come to market.
