All medium 8vo (9 x 6 ins) Engraved portrait frontispiece in each vol, with tissue-guards for the most part. Handsomely bound in half calf over pale brown cloth boards, heavily gilt spines with double contrasting labels, raised bands. Top edges gilt. Tips of corners and head and tail bands of spine slightly shelf i rubbed on some vols, likewise edges of boards. Scattered spotting across all volumes. A fine library set of the works of the American historian William Prescott, one of the most eminent American historians of the 19th century who specialised in late Renaissance Spain and the early Spanish Empire.
